Kyha | Gaiser Conservatory | Spokane WA
Last week my friend Kyha and I went to Manito Park in Spokane, Washington to scout out some great photo locations. We came across the Gaiser Conservatory and of course had to have an impromptu photo shoot! Haha! But honestly this isn't anything out of the usual for us. I will be sharing some of the photos here and I also want to introduce Kyha to you all. She is now my second shooter for most of my weddings that are here in the Spokane area! Kyha is an important person to me and I will tell you a little bit of our story.
I met Kyha at a wedding I was shooting in 2012. She was part of the bridal party, along with her husband Corey. I later discovered that we went to the same church. I know right, you're thinking "how did you not know she went to your church?! That's pretty lame of you".... Well in my defense I had just started going to this church! Ok now that I settled that, we can move on with the story.
I thought Kyha and her husband were adorable. They had this great style and they were young and in love (don't worry Kyha you are STILL young and in love). I knew I had to photograph them! I was a little nervous asking someone I barely knew to come model for me but she said she would love to! So I threw some props together and styled a shoot out in the-middle-of-nowhere, Idaho. We had so much fun! Even her husband had fun, which of course is extra bonus points! Right after the shoot they moved away to New York City. I was sad because I had finally gotten to know them a little better and they were so cool, I didn't want them to leave! But I was so excited for them and I stayed in touch. I watched and lived vicariously through Kyha. I had always wanted to go to New York and living in the city like that is every young person's dream (Ok it's not.. but to me it is!)
In 2015 we had this crazy idea of me coming to New York to photograph them again. It really started out as one of those day dream type plans.. you know, the ones that rarely actually happen. The ideas that go a little like "it would be so cool IF" or "maybe someday". But then we found a way to actually make it happen and next thing I knew, I had a ticket booked and I was all set to head to NYC. NO FREAKING WAY. Yes it happened. My day dream "maybe someday" plan actually was put into action. I got to spend a few days with Kyha and Corey touring NYC and getting to know them better. This was a trip I will never forget because it made such an impact and impression on the person I am today and the way I run my business. It started out with me going there because of this passion for photography, it was the reason, but I left with so much more. I gained a life long friend in the process as well. This is when I truly got to know Kyha and knew that us meeting was never by accident. I am absolutely amazed by how God brings people into our lives. I had no clue at that wedding in 2012 that I would end up gaining such a great friend. I am so happy to now have here living in the PNW again and assisting me with weddings (and of course being down for impromptu photo shoots all the time!)
Ok, enough talking. Enjoy the photos! Also, you can see some of the photos from the very first shoot I did of them over on Apple Brides!
